Werribee Zoo Adventures

Today we were invited to visit the Werribee Zoo, which really does provide you with an 'African adventure close to home'. It had been several years since I had been, and the kids have never actually visited before, so we were all very excited!

Throughout the school holidays there is the incorporation of 'Kulin Dreaming' where you can take part in Aboriginal activities throughout the Australian Trail at the zoo.

Children are able to make their own emu feather necklaces, paint river pebbles, take part in ochre face painting, and learn through interaction with members of the Kulin Nation, and watch dancing and didgeridoo performances.

It is a fantastic experience for adults and kids alike as you get to get up close and personal with not only native birds and animals, but also African animals roaming around the Savannah.

There are several keeper talks that take place throughout the day, where you can hear keeper's talk about lions, hippo's, gorilla's etc and hear about the Zoo's important conservation work.

Of course no visit to Werribee Zoo is complete without a safari tour across the Savannah. We were so lucky to get incredibly close to a rhino who followed our bus and stood right near us - such a surreal experience!

Definitely pop a visit to the Werribee Zoo on your list of things to do this school holidays - children are free of course and more information can be found below.
